Although he is one of the heroes of this tale, aDx is perhaps not the best example of an X to start out with. There are a lot of things about him that he does not have in common with the rest of his ilk, the scar he bears across his face being the most noticeable. A relic left over from his life as a Patch, it did not vacate his body with the rest of them when he awoke as an X. Why this is the case with him and none of the other X's he's encountered thus far isn't clear, though Nyx occasionally asserts the idea that it may be due to he fact that there is something from that life he refuses to let go of, even if he continues to behave as though he was never a Patch. Among his other differences, aDx is much more inclined to violence than his peers, enjoying the heat of battle and the thrill of victory far more deeply than might be considered healthy. Extraordinarily inwardly conflicted, his heart and instincts are those of a true X, caring and concerned for those still "sleeping" their lives away in The City, but his conscious mind rejects compassion and what he views as weakness. In his mind, anyone should be perfectly capable of saving themselves with no help from someone else, lest they be judged a leech, a parasite holding others back from their true potential with the anchor of their inadequacies. This logic is his alone, and, much to his chagrin, proves unable to withstand the crushing assault of his instincts to help those in need. aDx's chosen weapon is a long, viciously edged katana, though he seldom uses or even carries it. In his mind, it gives him an unfair advantage, and this is mostly true. He also sports plated armor on his forearms he calls "arm busters." They allow him to guard against bladed and heavier weapons, while still letting him feel the thrill and challenge of hand-to-hand combat. |

Nyx is the one that provides balance in aDx's life, and frequently finds herself (thankfully,) behind his reasoning during his more benevolent acts. She worries about him obsessively but long ago stopped voicing these concerns to her stubborn drive leader. Very passive and gentle in nature, her avoidance of conflict if at all possible belies an immense strength and the heart of a true warrior, characteristics she doesn't even see in herself. Strangely enough, the only one that seems to understand the depth of her strength is aDx himself, though it may only be subconsciously. Her timid nature is, on rare occasion, undermined and toppled by a fiercely protective streak that can be drawn out when something threatens those close to her. Unfortunately, more often than not the thing that needs protecting is aDx, and the threat is his own behavior, resulting in injuries, both to his body and his pride. Her chosen weapon is a large war hammer, blunt on one side with a sharp, curved talon-like hook on the other. |

Kaixo (formerly Kaiko, before her awakening,) was rescued by aDx during one of his nightly jaunts into The City. She was in the middle of being abducted by a small swarm of Faces when aDx caught sight of them and dispatched the lot. Being completely hidden beneath her bindings, he did not know the Faces had been transporting another person, and only fleeting curiosity caused him to check on the package they'd been carrying. Not knowing what to do, but well aware he couldn't just leave her there to rot, aDx returned to his treehouse with the still-bound Kaiko. It becomes apparent to both aDx and Nyx that she was beginning to awaken, and so, in his own fashion, aDx leads her to the path he and all other X's have chosen for her to choose her own fate. Following only her own atrophied instincts, she chose to become an X, and was christened Kaixo. Perhaps slightly more combative than your average X (primarily due to her mentor-pupil relationship with aDx,) she is nevertheless a gentle spirit, her most prominent personality trait being a seemingly insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Kaixo's chosen weapon is a long, razor-sharp scythe accented with a feathered wing. |
...And More
Many more X's live in the Foreverwood, just waiting to be introduced. Here are a few I've met so far, along with some other random pictures of our three unlikely heroes.
