The Free Radicals
The Palpi Clan
Palpi is the surname given to any Free Radical that is most closely associated with the tactile sensations. As with all Free Radicals, individual strengths and talents vary greatly, but a few traits are common to them all. They are unusually strong, physically speaking, and their heightened sense of touch allows them to feel things like nearly imperceptible vibrations in the air and through the ground, as well as very subtle shifts in ambient temperature.
Because of their nature, Palpae never wear coverings on their hands or feet that would impede their tactile senses. The armor and dress they do wear is fashioned most often from leather and bone. While they stray from more modern methods of weapon forging, such as iron smithing and other forms of metallurgy, they are unparalleled rocksmiths, chiseling arms from stone with methods only known to those of the Palpi Clan. Most highly favored as a medium for their weapons is a rare form of onyx, so dense it is nearly unbreakable.
Palpae tend to be a very boisterous people, quick to both laugh and anger, often simultaneously. They look at heated battle as a source of pure joy, and adhere to a very straightforward code of combat that does not allow for trickery and deception.
Their innate abilities render them nearly immune to the abilities of the Audio Clan, but their hot-blooded nature make them very susceptible to the abilities of the Nidor Clan.

The Nidor Clan
Nidor refers to a Free Radical with a highly developed olfactory sense. Aside from being able to smell normal scents at extreme distances and in very small quantities, they can also detect the normally invisible signals emitted by others in the form of pheromones.
Skilled in the arts of alchemy and metallurgy, typical Nidor garb consists of chain mail and plate armor. While coverings for their entire body are in fashion, you'll never see a Nidor with a helm, as they tend to feel that anything around their head dampens the receptive abilities of their keen noses. Weapons are forged using ancient techniques known only to the members of their own clan, and the resulting products are relatively lightweight and possess bladed edges that never dull.
Emotionally drive, the Nidoris seldom run as hot as the average Palpi, favoring the more subtle temptations of romance and song as opposed to the chaotic ecstasy of battle. They are far from timid, however and are fierce opponents when they chose to take up arms.
The unique talents of the Nidoris cause the abilities of the Palpi Clan to have very little impact on them, but they are easily taken in by the illusions of the Oculi.

The Oculus Clan
Any Free Radical gifted with a heightened sense of sight bears the name Oculus. Able to see perfect detail at vast distances, they can also focus on minute, nearly microscopic detail, allowing them to detect subtle changes in the pulse and body temperature of an opponent as indicated by the flush of blood flow near the surface of the skin.
More technologically advanced than any of the other clans, the material they use to fashion their clothes are lightweight, durable synthetic fibers woven together to optimize strength and flexibility. Because of their unique relationship with light, they create weapons through the growth of crystals with amazing properties in any shape desired. The crystals' attributes vary based on the preference of the wielder, and can range from nearly invisible to blindingly bright, depending on how the substance interacts with the light that moves through it.
Cold and analytical, the Oculi are not given to emotional states of any kind, and more often than not deny the necessity or even existence of their own emotions. They enter battle as they approach a puzzle: identify the variables and factors involved, then take the simplest, most logical steps towards a favorable solution.
The emotionless nature of the Oculus clan neutralizes the mood-altering effects of the Nidoris pheromones, but they're skills as optical illusionists are wasted on the Audio Clan.

The Audio Clan
The surname Audio is given to Free Radicals that are extraordinarily in tune with the realm of sound. They can hear subtle changes in heartbeat as well as a window shattering from miles away. It's rumored that some can even hear the vibration of molecules in objects at rest in a room, and that's how they can move about with such ease even though most of them wear blindfolds at all times.
Little thought is given to outer garments by the Audire, perhaps because they cannot see them and therefore do not care, the only common theme being their strictly utilitarian nature. Less technologically savvy than the Oculi, the Audio Clan still make use of impressive technology to augment their already formidable abilities. Although it is unclear exactly how their machines function, it is known that they rely on vibration to somehow generate heat and steam, the pressure providing the energy necessary for their function. They fashion their weapons out of alloys forged for their harmonic resonances.
More than any other clan, the Audire are a solitary bunch. Rarely if ever do they seek each other out, possibly due to the fact that they have a penchant for deception and treachery. Even one that would be considered honest by comparison with his kin is evasive and secretive.
The innate abilities of the Audio Clan are almost entirely ineffective against the Palpae, mostly due to the fact that the harmonic emanations of an Audio tend to alter one's sense of balance by disrupting the fluids in the inner ear or inducing audible hallucinations, and the Palpae balance themselves through contact with the earth and their surroundings. They also seem to be able to sense a difference in the feel of the vibrations, neutralizing the possibility of audibly generated confusion. The Occulus Clan and their crystals often prove highly susceptible to the Audire and their destructive vibrations, by contrast.
